Mission and Membership

The purpose of the Club is to promote friendship among women of Rice University and to welcome newcomers.

The Club welcomes as members women in the following categories: faculty and professional staff; part-time faculty and staff; retired faculty and staff; post-doctoral fellows and research associates; wives and widows of the above categories; alumnae or wives of alumni, female family members of the prior categories whose membership application has been approved by the Governing Board. Also eligible are women trustees or wives of trustees of the university and visiting faculty or spouses of visiting faculty.

Most of our activities are hybrid format with an in-person meeting available and a ZOOM link provided.

Members attend a meeting in Zoom

Our business meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month of the school year (September to April).

We invite people from Rice and the wider Houston community to present a short lecture, followed by a question and answer session. The lectures cover a variety of topics and interests, and are open to the Rice community. If a particular topic requires a field trip or excursions to interesting destinations, carpools will be available.

The monthly meetings are usually followed by an optional lunch at the Faculty Club. Tables are reserved for those who wish to stay for lunch. If members of the Rice community who are not members of the Faculty Club wish to stay for lunch, they can pay with a credit card.

The first meeting of the year has traditionally held at the President’s House, the December meeting is usually an afternoon holiday celebration, and the last meeting of the year is traditionally an afternoon tea social.

To join our club please see our Membership Form.
